Strohbeen & Bill Luchsinger
June 13th July 7th
Karen Strohbeen and
Bill Luchsinger, two of theMidwest’s most successful
fine artists for the past 25 years, expanded their audience
when they created the nationally syndicated PBS gardening series, “The
Perennial Gardner with Karen Strohbeen.” With Strohbeen
as the on-air talent and Luchsinger behind the camera writing,
producing, and directing each segment, the television series
combines their life-long love of gardening and their innovative
artwork.
Strohbeen and Luchsinger met as art students atDrakeUniversityinDes
Moines, and now live on 80 acres of idyllic centralIowafarmland,
comprising 8 acres of gardens, a film production facility, and
their art studio. Widely known for their paintings, printmaking,
sculpture, and now their innovative work on ceramic tiles, they
are at the forefront of digital printmaking. Available images
in their portfolio number in the hundreds.
Nature has inspired
both Strohbeen and Luchsinger. Whether
it is Karen’s whimsical and fantastic interpretations of
flowers and garden life or Bill’s more peaceful studies
of nature transformed from photographs, their styles have found
the perfect home in their limited edition prints and tiles.
With the introduction of their tiles over the past 10 years,
Karen and Bill have created an incredibly popular medium on which
they can reproduce their limited-edition images. Whether
the image is captured on a single 12x12-inch tile or enlarged
and printed on tile murals in groupings of four to 50, this new
medium has multiple applications in home decor.
Artist's reception at 5 p.m. on Friday.
And of course, ArtBar follows from 6 to 10 p.m. with dinner,
cocktails and entertainment by Willie James Shay. Check out
the ArtBar menu
in the Special
Events section.
